ABOUT US
Here at Broadway and SkyWay Silken Windhounds, we strive to continue the legacy the breed's founder started in the 1980s through responsible ownership, competition and the occasional litter.
I have been involved with dogs since I was a young girl. The first dog my family had was a Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix. She was the best dog and started my love for dogs. When I was 16, I got my very first personal dog in the form of a rescue dog. Probably not the best choice in breeds for a first timer since she was a husky mix, but I learned a lot from her, including the importance of making sure to get a dog that you are prepared for. She too was a great dog, but knowing what I do now, I was not ready for her.
In 2005, a journey started I've never looked back from. I attended a local dog show and instantly wanted to get a dog I could show. Six months after that first show, I found my first show dog, a German Shepherd Dog named Mirage. I journeyed for several years with German Shepherds and loved it, but I always found I was missing something. One of my GSDs started competing in lure coursing in 2012. At one of the coursing tests in early 2014, there was a litter of Silken Windhounds present. I immediately fell for them and had to have one. One month later, I got my first puppy from that same litter. My first Silken Ginger, started a love affair for the breed and less than a year later, I had three.
Silken Windhounds are an amazing breed of dog, bringing together the best of the breeds that helped create them. From the beauty of the Borzoi to the playful spirit of the Whippet, they are truly wonderful dogs. Their medium sized package easily fits with any person lucky enough to have one in their life. They are more responsive and trainable than other sighthounds and many compete in obedience and agility. They are also very friendly, love to be with people and seem to have an affinity for children. In fact several members of the breed work as therapy dogs. I know many people, like myself, that started with one Silken and now have many. Potato chip is a good description for this breed, you can't have just one. For more information, I highly recommend visiting the parent club's website: http://www.silkenwindhounds.org/
I compete with my dogs in anything they enjoy. We currently enjoy conformation, various amateur coursing events, barn hunt, nose work and hopefully, therapy work. My primary goals in breeding are producing well rounded Silkens, focussing on structure, breed type and temperament. I look for sporting ability, but my focus is dogs that are wonderful companions that bring their families daily joy. I raise my litters using programs such as Puppy Culture, modifying as necessary to keep the experience positive for the puppies yet still incorporating appropriate and beneficial levels of stress.
I breed very sparingly as I believe strongly in quality over quantity.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.
